UFC contender Ian Machado Garry has said he is no longer allowed to train at Leon Edwards’s gym, after the welterweight champion and his coach expressed concern over “doubts and insecurities” at Team Renegade egame
The unbeaten Machado Garry has trained at various gyms in numerous countries in recent months, but told The Independent that he will not be able to return to Renegade, at the request of Edwards and his coach Dave Lovell egame
The Irishman did, however, stress his appreciation of Ash Begg and Tom Breese, who run Team Renegade egame
“Gym conflict has absolutely been a massive issue recently,” said Machado Garry, who turns 26 in November and faces teammate Vicente Luque in December egame
“Leon Edwards, his head coach asked me not to come back to Renegade; told me I’m not allowed to train there egame
“I have to word this correctly, because I don’t wanna be… Firstly, I wanna put out there that Ash and Tom, who run Renegade… I don’t wanna give any negatives without saying a positive egame
I don’t want any s*** with any gyms egame
The guys at Renegade… it was a great energy egame
Tom and Ash were very welcoming, lovely and nice to me egame
It was nothing to do with them egame
“Leon and his head coach had an issue with me training on the mats and recently have asked me not to train there, because, ‘Leon doesn’t want any insecurities or doubts on his own mats, within the gym,’ which I don’t fully understand egame
“I get that we’re both in the top 10 and you might see me as a threat, but I’m not a threat to you right now; I’m not fighting for the title right now egame
His coach said the words: ‘Ian is a threat, I cannot have Leon having any doubts or insecurities egame
’“That makes me think someone is weak minded and can’t have another contender training on the mat egame
That’s why gym conflict is annoying egame
For me, why not have that other elite guy on the mat? Why not train with him? Why not have him push you? Why not learn and grow from each other?Machado Garry during his dominant win over Neil Magny in August (Getty Images)“It’s very irritating, because I’m a young fighter who wants to be the best in the world, who wants to train with the best in the world, and Renegade is the best gym in the UK egame
I went there to learn from the guys around Birmingham and who have essentially proven that it’s the best gym in the UK; I didn’t go there to train with Leon, I went there to train with that gym, because they’re amazing egame
“Now I’m being stopped from going to a gym, because I might potentially fight Leon in 18 months egame
My attitude is: If that’s the case, why not have this conversation in six months? “I love the guys at Renegade egame
They’re really nice and welcoming, I rang them beforehand to make sure everything was good egame
Then, after the second day I was there, they were like: ‘Oh, we can’t have you back, Leon and some of his team don’t want this egame
’ “So, when we talk about conflict, that’s it egame
There’s a piece for you to write, for sure!”The Independent has contacted Edwards, Lovell and Team Renegade for comment egame
Machado Garry last fought in August, beating Neil Magny via unanimous decision egame
The “Future” is next in action at UFC 296 in December, facing teammate Luque egame
Meanwhile, Edwards last fought in March, outpointing Kamaru Usman to retain the welterweight title that he took from his old rival with a head-kick knockout last August egame
The Birmingham fighter, 32, is due to headline UFC 296, defending his belt against former interim champion Colby Covington egame
Watch UFC 296 live on TNT egame Sports in the UK and Ireland, on Saturday 16 December egame

The old story goes that when Kevin Barrett hung up his boots, the man they called ‘Smiley’ was asked what he was going to do next egame
“I’m going to go breed some All Blacks,” Smiley replied, returning to the family dairy farm and setting to work egame
By that stage, sons Beauden, Scott and Jordie had already been born, and how they’ve lived up to their father’s assertion egame
On Saturday night, they will become the first trio of brothers to appear in a Rugby World Cup final, all close to certain starters for the All Blacks ahead of a meeting with South Africa egame
There are many tales of successful sporting siblings, from the Williams sisters to the Kelce brothers; the Waughs or the Charltons egame
But for three brothers to be so integral to a potential World Cup win is special egame
Smart international rugby coaches build their side around a spine of players from a single club; Ian Foster has been able to build his All Blacks around a single family egame
Their rise to the top is a story of both nature and nurture egame
Smiley was a legend of Taranaki rugby, capped almost 200 times by the Bulls in the back five in the pack, while mother Robyn was a talented egame basketball and netball player egame
Growing up, the brothers would hone their skills on a patch of land in their sprawling backyard that they called the BCG – the Barrett Cricket Ground – with Smiley intent on making sure all of his sons had the skillset to play an all-court game egame
“As youngsters playing in back yard, we only dreamed of being here,” Beauden Barrett explained earlier in the tournament egame
“’Mum was a pretty talented athlete herself egame
They all say our speed came from Mum and I guess the size and work rate from Dad egame
Kevin ‘Smiley’ Barrett featured for province Taranaki nearly 200 times (Getty Images)“There was always work to be done egame
So we always saw Mum and Dad doing that, coming home cooking us dinner, getting us ready for school egame
So if you relate that to your rugby it’s about striving to be egame better, to be the best you can be egame
"By their teenage years, the trio could pass off both hands and kick with both feet, making them most of the space on the family dairy farm in Rahotu, an hour’s drive south of New Plymouth egame
Eldest brother Kane was pretty talented, too, just breaking through with the Blues when concussions brought a premature close to his career in 2014 egame
Beauden was first to break through, barely out of his teens when making a first Super Rugby appearance and only 21 when helping the All Blacks to a record win over Ireland on international debut egame
His role as the bench impact back was crucial to the 2015 World Cup win, while two World Rugby Men’s Player of the Year awards followed in 2016 and 2017 after stepping up to be Dan Carter’s fly half successor egame
Beauden Barrett has had a fine tournaemnt (Getty Images)Of late, he has embraced his reinvention as an almost full-time full-back at international level – he has been outstanding throughout this World Cup, described as the “glue” in New Zealand’s side by head coach Ian Foster egame
He may lack the acceleration of his youth but there are few smarter backfield brains at this tournament egame
An impending deal with Toyota Verblitz will see Beauden move to Japan for at least a season, with the 32-year-old weighing up whether to extend his stay or return to New Zealand to try to make a fourth World Cup egame
This could yet be his last All Blacks hurrah egame
To do it alongside his brothers will fill Beauden with immense pride egame
That either could have a claim to be the best player in the family will, too egame
Lock Scott has come on leaps and bounds since the last tournament, forcing apart long-time second row partners Brodie Retallick and Sam Whitelock after producing a series of unignorable performances egame
If his sending off in the final warm-up against the Springboks shows he still has the occasional rough edge, Scott has become one of New Zealand’s most consistent performers egame
Centre Jordie and lock Scott have come into their own at international level (Getty Images)Jordie Barrett is probably the most talented of the Barrett bunch, possessing a blend of Scott’s size and Beauden’s brilliance egame
After starting his professional career primarily at full-back, his development as a top-class international inside centre - or second five-eight, as the Kiwis call it – has solved a problem spot for the All Blacks egame
His ability to offer real carrying threat and add playmaking options as a second distributor makes him a vital figure on attack, while he has come on defensively, too egame
Jordie is leading New Zealand’s set-piece defence at this tournament, and made 17 tackles in a player of the match performance in the semi-final against Argentina egame
“He was massive in defence, he attempted the most tackles,” defence coach Scott McLeod said of Jordie’s performance egame
“But the most pleasing thing for me was he actually applied pressure egame
“He saw the pictures a lot earlier, he backed himself to go and do it and those around him supported that and he made quite a difference for us egame
"If New Zealand are to beat South Africa on Saturday, you somehow feel at least one of the three will be key egame
Beauden, of course, already has one World Cup winners’ medal, his late breakaway try putting the seal on back-to-back All Blacks’ triumphs in 2015 egame
Come Saturday night, the Barrett mantlepiece could be gilded again, three more medals a fitting decoration for a remarkable sporting family egame
